Erik Bakos

A tragic house fire has brought great harm to a family in our football program. Erik Bakos, a JV player, and his brother and mother were hospitalized due to injuries from the fire. As far as we know at the moment, Eric and his mother remain at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. The fire occurred early Monday morning; from media reports, it appears that most, if not all, of the family’s possessions have been damaged or lost.

To keep up with Erik’s progress, a website has been established at caringbridge.org.  Be sure to sign the guestbook to show your support for Erik and his family.

Longer range, once the situation stabilizes and new housing arrangements are known, the booster club plans to start a drive for furnishings, clothing, food cards, and other basic needs. Additional information will be posted to the booster club website as warranted.

If you wish to contribute now toward the family's needs, the booster club is currently taking monetary donations.  You can give cash, checks (made out to SPHS Booster Club with a note "Bakos Family," or to Misty Bakos) or money orders to Rose Garza, who is in the SPHS front office.  When they are ready, the donations will be turned over to the family.

Please keep the Bakos family in your prayers during & beyond this holiday season.

Auction Benefits Both Project Graduation & SPHS Football Booster Club

Wednesday, September 3

Set aside the evening of Saturday, November 8th for a fun and lively auction that will benefit two Stony Point programs -- Project Graduation and the Football Booster Club! Items will include:

Howard Chase will act as auctioneer for the evening.  It promises to be an exciting event!  Mr. Chase is a retired school superintendent and holds auctions only for non-profit organizations.  We are fortunate to have use of his services.  Additional information on the auction can be found on the Project Graduation website.

Project Graduation: "Project Graduation is an all-night, drug and alcohol-free celebration for graduating seniors and their guests. This type of celebration, held on the night of graduation has proven to be a most effective means of preventing needless drug and alcohol related incidents and has saved lives in every community where it has been held."

Pass the Helmet

Monday, August 25

Pass the Helmet is the Booster Club's scholarship program for senior Varsity players who continue on to college.  We "pass the helmet" (actually, two) each time Stony Point scores a touchdown. Two helmets are usually used at different locations in the stands. The proceeds go directly to the college scholarships offered to the graduating seniors. We need two volunteers for each Varsity game.

Contact Gene, 512-848-1733, if you're interested.

Purchase DVDs of This Season's Games

Monday, August 25

You have an opportunity to purchase DVDs of this season's games shot by SharpShooters Video Production.  SharpShooters has been highly recommended by parents of previous Varsity players.  They have three packages available:

More details are available on each of the packages is available at the SharpShooters website.

In order to ensure that SharpShooters can provide the videographers for our first games against Alamo Heights this Thursday/Friday, we have to have at least 15 sales per team by this Wednesday, August 27th -- 2 days from today!  If you know you would like to purchase, please do so now.  If you cannot decide now, the packages will be available throughout the season, providing we get the initial sales.

If you have questions about SharpShooters or their service, please contact Rebekah at 512-255-6293.  She can also provide discounts for families that have 2 or more players on the Varsity team.  If you'd like to talk with a family who has used SharpShooters recently, contact Danny or Lynnette at Cazcaswell@austin.rr.com.

Sponsors for the 2008 Season

Tuesday, August 19

Stony Point High School has drawn more football fans than any other Round Rock ISD team for the past three years -- approximately 12,000 fans per game. With last year's District Championship and move into the playoffs, we expect even more this year.

The team's motto -- The Right Way, Every Day, and Earning the Right To Win -- is exemplified on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

We are looking for sponsors for the 2008 season who want to support our program. We have three levels:

Tiger Blue

Tiger Gold

Tiger White

Contact Shari Ramming if you're interested in becoming a 2008 sponsor.

Help Provide Sunday Lunches for the Coaches

Monday, August 11, Updated August 25

UPDATE:  We need volunteers for only 2 more Sundays -- September 7th and October 26th

Ever wonder what our football coaches do on Sundays during the season? No, they're not enjoying a lazy weekend. They all gather at the school to prepare for Stony Point's next opponents. They watch film, they discuss, they watch more film, they discuss some more -- they may even disagree with each other!

What can we do to help? Provide a substantial lunch for our 13 hungry coaches! Volunteers provide lunch at noon the Sunday after each game, starting the Sunday after the Alamo Heights games. You don't have to do it alone -- buddy up with a few of your friends to provide a meal, dessert, and drinks for our 13 hungry coaches.

This does not count as volunteer Booster Club hours, as it is an individual gesture.

We're need volunteers for these Sundays:

Contact Rose if you'd like to cover one (or more) of these dates.

Stay tuned -- we may need additional volunteers as we enter the playoffs!

Coach Lewinsky will discuss the college recruiting process for football players at 7:00pm, Monday, August 4th in G109/G110.

From this experience, he will offer his insight on the whole recruiting process, including eligibility rules, core classes, sliding scale, 48H forms and what SPHS does to help during this process.

Coach will offer only general information about the recruiting process. This is NOT the time for him to discuss the specific situation of an individual athlete in the Stony Point football program. Private appointments should be made with the coaching staff for individual matters.
