Erik Bakos
Tuesday, December 16
A tragic house fire has brought great harm to a family in our football program. Erik Bakos, a JV player, and his brother and mother were hospitalized due to injuries from the fire. As far as we know at the moment, Eric and his mother remain at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. The fire occurred early Monday morning; from media reports, it appears that most, if not all, of the family’s possessions have been damaged or lost.
To keep up with Erik’s progress, a website has been established at caringbridge.org. Be sure to sign the guestbook to show your support for Erik and his family.
Longer range, once the situation stabilizes and new housing arrangements are known, the booster club plans to start a drive for furnishings, clothing, food cards, and other basic needs. Additional information will be posted to the booster club website as warranted.
If you wish to contribute now toward the family's needs, the booster club is currently taking monetary donations. You can give cash, checks (made out to SPHS Booster Club with a note "Bakos Family," or to Misty Bakos) or money orders to Rose Garza, who is in the SPHS front office. When they are ready, the donations will be turned over to the family.
Please keep the Bakos family in your prayers during & beyond this holiday season.

What Do Playoffs Mean to the Players and Their Families
Wednesday, October 29
With the victory over Cedar Park, Varsity now has 5 district wins and has secured an appearance in the 2008 Division 1 AAAAA playoffs for the second year in a row. Based on our experience last year, here is some general information to remember:
- Playoffs begin the first week following the conclusion of the regular season, and run for six straight weeks, including Thanksgiving week.
- The UIL allows playoff games to be scheduled on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. We won’t know the day, time, or location until each game is finished, and Coach Chessher has contacted and reached an agreement with the next opposing team.
- When the time comes, the coaches will announce which sub-varsity players will continue to practice with the varsity team during the playoff run. Some freshman, and many JV players may continue to practice during the post-season. It’s up to the coaches, but a few of these sub-varsity players may be invited to dress out with the varsity during the playoff games.
- Should we make it to the third round of the playoffs, practices would likely be scheduled through the Thanksgiving holiday break.

Pass the Helmet
Monday, August 25
Pass the Helmet is the Booster Club's scholarship program for senior Varsity players who continue on to college. We "pass the helmet" (actually, two) each time Stony Point scores a touchdown. Two helmets are usually used at different locations in the stands. The proceeds go directly to the college scholarships offered to the graduating seniors. We need two volunteers for each Varsity game.
Contact Gene, 512-848-1733, if you're interested.

Help Provide Sunday Lunches for the Coaches
Monday, August 11, Updated August 25
UPDATE: We need volunteers for only 2 more Sundays -- September 7th and October 26th
Ever wonder what our football coaches do on Sundays during the season? No, they're not enjoying a lazy weekend. They all gather at the school to prepare for Stony Point's next opponents. They watch film, they discuss, they watch more film, they discuss some more -- they may even disagree with each other!
What can we do to help? Provide a substantial lunch for our 13 hungry coaches! Volunteers provide lunch at noon the Sunday after each game, starting the Sunday after the Alamo Heights games. You don't have to do it alone -- buddy up with a few of your friends to provide a meal, dessert, and drinks for our 13 hungry coaches.
This does not count as volunteer Booster Club hours, as it is an individual gesture.
We're need volunteers for these Sundays:
- August 31
- September 7
- September 14
- September 28
- October 12
- October 19
- October 26
- November 2
- November 9
Contact Rose if you'd like to cover one (or more) of these dates.
Stay tuned -- we may need additional volunteers as we enter the playoffs!
